169 Kanji and growing
Its true, I’ve committed myself to learning Japanese Kanji. Some of you might be saying “It’s about time”, others might say “Why bother?”.
Well, I’ve been in school full-time for the past 2 years all while working 50+ hours a week. So time has been scarce - and until now I’ve only managed to learn Japanese Hirigana and Katakana which has been quite helpful. But in the end Kanji is necessary if I want to advance my Japanese proficiency.
At the time of this writing I have covered, practiced, drilled, and memorized 169 Kanji in the last month. I feel somewhat accomplished. My goal is 300 by the end of July. 300 Kanji will be the basis for me passing the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) level 3.
Sounds like a lot, right? Well consider that the next level in difficulty (JLPT 2) requires a working knowledge of 1000 Kanji. And what does the most difficult level require? 2000.
I think 2009 is the year of Kanji for me ^^
