Journey to Japan - part 1

In 1 week I’ll make a permanent move to Japan.  Ayako and I have lived apart for nearly two years now, and its about time we have a chance to plan our future from a central location.  Moving has been a pretty big part of my life, and I’m glad for all the places I’ve been.  But most exciting of all, are the thoughts of where we might be someday in the future.  So, with a move this big, what am I to do?  Heres a quick checklist:

  • get a new bank account at citibank so i can access my money easier
  • cancel my truck insurance
  • perhaps sell my truck
  • mail some stuff to our place in Tokyo
  • cancel my cell phone contract (wont work over there as-is, and i dont feel like paying the extra $$$ for using it on their network)
  • change my US address to my mothers place
  • pay my taxes before i leave so the kgb IRS doesn’t come after me
  • backup my important documents

Those are the big things, but there are some other big things in the more personal arena:

  • reserve a venue for our wedding reception
  • packup my stuff and store it out of the way in what little room i have left here in the US
  • get a few presents to take to friends in Japan
  • throw away useless crap, and buy more useless crap to take with me
  • realize that i cant pack all my useless crap - so only take what will fit
  • spend time with my family - if only a day or two

May not seem like a lot, but throw in lots of work, and living out of 2  suitcases - and then you see it can get a bit more complicated.  Nevertheless, Tokyo here I come.
