Picture Post Friday part deux

new apartments almost ready (2 new buildings opening up within 4 blocks of us!)

mentai chips - main label says “umai” = tasty. When I bought these I wasnt sure of what these chips were flavored as. All I knew was the marketing said they were tasty… so I trusted them. I attempted to figure out what the chips were - but my every attempt to look the words up proved fruitless (particularly “mentai” because it was repeated a few times in english and hirigana on the bag).
The chips were pretty good, I ate almost the whole bag without knowing their secret ingredient. When Ayako got home I asked her… come to find out “mentai” does not have an english translation… but it is the eggs of Alaskan pollack. …. fish egg chips!

A cool feature of most tv shows in Japan, they automatically provide captioning of what is being said. I imagine this is an attempt to help foreigners and children learn the language.
