this day was a happy day
So, I debated whether to write about very mundane things… but then I realized that although this might seem a weird topic - its an experience worth sharing because others will probably face it as well.
All of you are probably familiar with the circadian rhythm, ie: your body’s natural clock that prepares and anticipates changes in your biochemical dependencies, physiological needs, and behavioral patterns throughout a 24hour cycle.
Well, when you disrupt this rhythm by doing any one of the following:
*sleeping when you should be awake, and vice versa
*changing your surroundings (leaving a big apartment to live in a shoebox)
*changing your diet (going from american fast-food to rice cakes or 99-store sandwhiches)
*acquiring a new schedule (working different hours, traveling more often or less often)
*feeling burdened with more stress than normal (planning a wedding)
*dropping your normal exercise routine (walks to the university, Friday B-ball)
*travel into the future where there are vending machines for cabbages and other goodies
*wake up to “We built this city on rock-n-roll” every morning
it tends to bring unpleasant side-effects. First things you probably notice are lack of energy, slowed thought process, and perhaps even irritability. Your body may revolt by forcing you to sleep at strange times, or if things get really bad - you may become more susceptible to sickness and depression (neither of which I am afraid of).
But in many cases (mine included), the symptoms are generally much milder, but equally annoying and can last for many weeks to even months. And that is why today is a happy day.
Today I gave a worthy offering to the porcelain-god. Regularity has left me - and I do indeed miss it.
