biki is good! US Embassy Affidavit
Today I made a quick run to the 7-11 store at lunchtime to see if they had my favorite sushi roll. Alas, they did not - which finally confirms my suspicion that they will not have it ever again (they’ve replaced that food with some new rolls which are not as tasty imo).
So, I bought a small onigiri while there so I wouldn’t feel bad for just looking at their food selection - gotta help out in this economic crisis
Next up - the good ole QQ (99 yen store). There I found a bargain bin of food today. I guess on Thursdays they get a big supply of food, so many of the cold sandwhiches and sweet cakes were on sale. My first trip to Japan I couldn’t read the yellow sticker’s that said “20 Yen biki”
20 円 びき
Which says “20 yen down” or 20 yen off. Often you will see sushi vendors (and other small shops) offer these great deals around 8pm that are 30% biki! Man, I haven’t bought any yet, but I plan on buying the cheap sushi someday soon =)
On another note, tomorrow is a big day. And I meant to write about this sooner. A little over a week ago Ayako’s parents came to visit us. It was a pretty important day for me as it was finally time for me to officially ask Ayako’s father for her hand in marriage.
So we went out for hot tea at a nice restaurant - and after a little chit-chat, I stumbled through the lines of nihongo I had committed to memory - essentially asking for their blessing. Of course, with the nervousness of the situation it sounded very choppy and quite slow. Ayako’s father accepted and said some very nice words about us. They asked us about our plans, and gave advice about life together. It was a very memorable chat.
So tomorrow I alone will make my trek to the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo to start the legal chain of events necessary to allow us to be married. First up - I have to get a notarized affidavit showing that I am of legal age and sound mind to marry.
Lets see how that goes =)
