Rain, Rainbow, Pot-o-Gold, Investments

Today it rained and was very “samui” (cold) in Tokyo. I stayed at the apartment to work. It was nice and quiet, my work went undistracted, and things were accomplished. Instead of the bustle in the office my ears were only filled with the sound of keys being pressed, and the music inside my headphones. For B I listened to 8-ball & MJG… good stuff.

I didn’t see a rainbow today, but I’m sure there was one somewhere, and that pot-o-gold is out there waiting. I don’t chase pots of gold too often, but I do like the thought of being financially independent. Anyone that knows me well probably knows this already.

Today I want to share some resources I found that are good reminders of sound investment strategy.

First up - a Dave Ramsey quick investment guide. Very good advice here, coming from a guy that I think knows what he is talking about. In it he discusses the steps to investing, and what types of investments he recommends.

Next up - a compilation of advice from great investors. Here are a few personal favorites:

History provides a crucial insight regarding market crises: They are inevitable, painful, and ultimately surmountable…

Investors in the 1970s were faced with stagflation, rising energy prices
and a stock market that plummeted 44% in two years. Investors in the 1980s dealt with the collapse of the major Wall Street investment bank Drexel Burnham Lambert and Black Monday, when the market crashed over 22% in one day. In the 1990s, investors had to weather the S&L Crisis, the failure and ultimate bailout of hedge fund Long Term Capital Management and the Asian financial crises.

And a quote from the ever inspiring Warren Buffett

Be fearful when others are greedy.
Be greedy when others are fearful.

Hope you get some good reading out of this. If you are interested in more Investment type blog posts, please leave me a comment =)

Surprise with the history lesson you posted on the market changes. Ditto on Dave Ramsey.

i was a bit surprised about the history lesson too - its easy to forget that things like this have happened in the not too distant past …

  3. Wilber Says:

Nah, I was surprised with your knowledge of the recent history, ie lots to remember and little time to study. Having lived it, it’s easier for me to remember. That’s all i was saying :-D
