UNA Alum in Tokyo
Today I took a trip to a station close to Akihabara (famous electronics district aptly named “electric town”) called Okachimachi. I met my friend and fellow UNA alumni - Shingo. Shingo happened to be the first Japanese student I ever talked to at UNA, and likewise the first I played basketball with (so by talk to I mean we said hello and exchanged names before playing a game - and after a few games we ended up chit chatting a little so he could practice his english).
We walked around Ameyoko street and ventured into Ueno park - which is quite large. The park is a must stop for those visiting Tokyo - especially at the end of March through April. During this time many people start setting up for the Hanami festival. This is a traditional celebration where people claim patches of ground underneath Japanese sakura blossom trees and sit around drinking and relaxing. It is quite a spectacle when you walk through the park and see hundreds of people lounging around and drinking outside.
After meeting my college friend I ended the evening on a high note by going out with a couple coworkers for a few drinks and a very tasty dinner. The best steak, great sides, smooth top shelf liquor, and equally enjoyable conversation. The only thing missing was a good cuban cigar, but who am I kidding - I don’t smoke ![]()
