Discrimination
Ok, so first off it is pretty difficult to follow up on my last post. It was such a high moment, and really should be on the front page longer… but then again - the wedding ceremony will be even better.
But what makes this post even more crazy is the complete 180 degree turn in terms of cheer.
So Ayako and I went apartment hunting again this weekend, we spent ALL DAY saturday looking - starting from 9am til after 8pm. It was a very very busy day putting us in 2 different apartment search companies, and sifting through many an apartment listing.
You’ve heard all that before from me, but what you haven’t heard is how it seems we are discriminated against to some degree here. On numerous occasions when the agent helping us to find an apartment called to ask the apartment owner if we could look at it - they told the owner that it was a Japanese lady and her American husband. About 1 in 4 told the agent that they did not want to deal with any gaikokujin (foreigners) because they had trouble with them in the past.
Seems its like I’m just another bad apple in a barrel to some people. I know that discrimination happens, even in the land of the free / home of the brave. However, hearing it so directly stated that they won’t deal with a foreigner - in a country that is known for its indirectness - seems a bit strange.
In any case, I don’t think those apartment managers deserve my money - so I prefer not to deal with them. I’ll happily go elsewhere, and elsewhere is where I will go.

Discrimination that’s sad but a fact of life in all countries.
Unfortunately A few bad monkey’s in the barrel spoil it for all the monkey’s. You are right though, you need to just go somewhere else because you don’t need to give them your money. That’s their lose and your gain. So keep looking and I am sure you and Ayako will find a good apartment. One that doesn’t discriminate.

Yeah, I have no worries - we will find someplace nice. Japan is still a really great place to live / work / visit, so not worried bout it, just pointing it out.

Can we say something other than “Monkeys,” geez. Hey Charles maybe you should call the NAAAP, (National Association for the Advancement of American People). Do they even have one of those? Oh well good luck.

Changed. Its strange how different people can see words. I didn’t catch the potential racist comment in my own statement. Instead was thinking about this game when i wrote it http://www.boardgames.com/barofmon.html
Hope apples does not have a racist connotation.
