Japanese Chess - Shogi

So I bought a Japanese chess set this past weekend. I found a good deal on one, and decided it was worth the investment. You never know when you might strike up a conversation, or better yet, a game with someone - especially when you are already acquainted with how it works.

The game is different looking from western chess, but from the pictures in the rule book - i think it will be very similar in gameplay.

I havent played it yet, but will soon (i hope). The game is called *Shogi* in Japanese, and here is a link to take a peek at what it looks like:

Good video lessons of shogi are available to watch on YouTube. Please search “shogi lesson” on Google or YouTube, then you can find them created by HIDETCHI. Have fun.

Cami you are correct, the shapes of the pieces are not different, only the size and the Kanji characters on them. I am not sure Ayako is interested in playing Shogi with me, but I am trying to talk her into it ;)

(Bernard, if you are out there - you better believe we are going to play Shogi as well as Chess next time I get back to the States :) )
