How many parties?
On Saturday Ayako’s coworkers hosted a party for us in honor of our wedding, along with another coworker that just got engaged. It was a congratulatory party for the newlywed and the newly engaged.
The party started at 2pm in Roppongi (expensive part of Tokyo) at a neat little restaurant. We ate a mix of American style food and answered questions about how we met and first impressions etc. In between the questions, food, and music we played a drinking game and managed to win some gift certificates. After eating cake, Ayako’s manager gave a nice speech and we ended the party saying thank you to everyone.
Afterward, I discovered that most everyone was going to a second party. The second party consisted of drinking at another nice place in Roppongi. Lots of socializing, informal introductions, and jokes were made. About 2 hours passed and the party concluded as we all left to the train station.
By the time we got to the train station we were asked if we would like to join the 3rd party! About half of the remaining people were going to get some food and more drinks. Without much resistance we agreed and followed along. The third party ended several hours later when we all made an exit in search of the last trains going home.
We definitely enjoyed ourselves, and it was a great chance for me to practice my nihongo. Honestly though, three outings in one night = wow. Staying in Japan for a prolonged period may be bad for my liver.
