Himeji Castle Tour - part 2
On to part two of the Himeji castle tour (see the previous post for more photos and background information).

One of the interior courtyards, if you can call it that. More of a transition area, that didn’t appear to serve much of a purpose other than provide an extra layer of walls and doors.

Speaking of doors. The doors / gates in the walls were all nicely reinforced. Look at how thick this iron plated door is! This was one of the smaller interior ones… the exterior gates were better reinforced and thicker.

And here we are in the main courtyard right below what we can consider the front of the castle. The stone base had to be about 5 stories high. Even being this close to castle it would be no easy task for anyone to scale, it would be much simpler to break through the last set of doors and walk in.

Another angle on the last shot. I’m probably standing back about 50 yards… this castle is much taller than the photo may suggest.

How old is this place?

Himeji castle was originally built in 1346… so about 700 years old
