Candy Cane, Nomunication, and Mystery Meat
Today was interesting… very interesting. It started off with a very busy day at work. Work was so busy and demanding that it really drained me (thanks to the people that wrote the Gumblar virus, a most insidious piece of software).
Lunchtime was spent with 3 co-workers at an Italian buffet (in Japan they call buffets “Viking”). Good food and conversation.
After lunch I received a small Christmas present that made me realize another thing missing from Japan. My co-worker handed me a candy cane, I have never seen candy canes in Japan. I do occasionally see Christmas trees, although rare, but I never see candy canes…
After a long day of work, I met Ayako in Gotanda (part of Tokyo) to join her and her manager Tomiyama san at their “nomunication” with their customers Tahara san and Nabeshima san. “Nomunication” is a Japanese business meeting in a casual setting over food and alcohol; since Japanese society is usually very strict in social order and levels of respect, these types of meetings help reduce stress and allow more of a partnership to grow between different companies or groups.
The food was really good, and I even tried something new… raw horse meat. Raw horse meat has no taste, so I can’t even explain it… Sorry Jim, no photo of the horse meat
On the other hand, the conversation was quite flavorful. We talked about a lot of interesting things from sports to relationships to work and life in Japan. Overall, I really enjoy nomunication 楽しかった

Good answer, Look at me, I’m very well fed. Can you get the stuff to make taco salad there?

I can. Except i it’s a wee difficult for me to find taco seasoning outside of a taco kit (which is quite expensive). For one, I can’t quite read the bags of seasonings very well

That’s cool, just take Ayako to read the season packets sometime.

At least you’re not unreasonable and not going to eat your co-workers’ eyes…
