Back from new years in Gumma
So we got back from Gunma yesterday and settled back in place. Work today was playing catch-up on things past, nothing particularly special.
This past week was quite fun. New Years week is much like Thanksgiving in Japan except it is spread across a few extra days here. Family and extended family meet this time of year so its what most Americans would consider as a mixture of Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
We started off by visiting our friends the night we first arrived in Maebashi. We ate dinner, drank, talked, and took photos. Here is a photo of some particularly good sparkling sake. Quite sweet and worth a try. Its name is “suzune”

Then as a surprise, our friends brought out a special cake to celebrate our wedding date. Unfortunately they were unable to make it to the US to join the wedding party, but they have always been very happy for us, this being no exception. Special thanks for the cake!
