3 year visa

Woohoo! Last Friday I traveled to the immigration office to pick up my shiny new visa. A three year visa to be exact. I won’t have to travel back to the immigration office for anything - until I want to leave the country for any reason (Now that I have permission to stay, I have to get permission to leave - ha).

Yesterday, I picked up my new alien registration card at the local city hall. It is my most important ID card here, and I have to carry it with me at all times to satisfy any official requests for identification. After yesterday, I thought that everything was finished there for the next three years as well, until I realized the date on the card was incorrect for my visa expiration. So, Today, I traveled back to the local city hall to have them correct the visa information (took 10 mins, they simply wrote on the back of the card, stamped it, and laminated it so it wouldn’t smudge off).

All in all, this process is not particularly difficult or overkill, just time consuming.
