okinawan snack and a bus ticket

A short blog post today. Today I tasted a semi-sweet snack from Okinawa. I really liked it, so to share, here is a photo (unfortunately, at the moment I don’t remember what it actually was… but maybe it had a sweet potato flavor?):

Okinawan snack

This weekend I took a bus from the court that I play basketball at to my apartment. Riding a bus in Japan is not difficult if you know what to do.

When the bus stops, get on and grab a paper ticket from the dispensing machine. The ticket will have a number representing the place where you got on. At the front of the bus is an electronic board showing the current cost for your #. When you reach your destination simply deposit your ticket and money into the machine at the front of the bus.

But here is the catch. You have to have exact change. :(

If you accidentally throw in more money than what it costs, the machine will not give you change back. Instead, if you do not have exact change, there is a separate machine next to the bus driver that will break a 500 yen coin, or 1000 yen bill. Once you figure that out, riding the bus is actually quite easy :)
