Movie Releases
If I haven’t mentioned before, movies are often released in Japan much later than in other places. In some cases, the length of time between release in other countries and Japan is quite baffling.
Take, for example, Shrek IV:
USA - May 21, 2010
Kazakhstan - May 21, 2010
Italy - August 25, 2010
Japan - December 18, 2010
Japan is the last one on the release dates. Isn’t that strange? I mean, c’mon, Japan is beaten by Kazakhstan by a long shot. Think about that, Kazakhstan is listed as the:
56th largest GDP… whereas Japan is #2, and in Kazakhstan they speak both Qazak and Russian. So it’s not like the movie could just be played as-is (they have to translate it).
Waiting for movies to release in Japan is a normal occurrence, and often I forget about the movies because my friends stop talking about them months before they show up here. But I’m not crying, and honestly, I’m not even concerned about Shrek IV.
Instead, I want to end this post on a very positive note. One movie that I am dying to see is going to release in Japan quite quick in comparison to most others. In fact, it will release in Japan just 1 day after the US.
My US friends may be able to see this movie on Friday, July 16 in the US… but since I live in the future, I will probably be catching the matinee for this movie on July 17th at the same time they sit down to watch as well.

Don’t worry your not missing out on that many great movies these days. Is everything in Japan going 3D crazy? They are starting to ruin some great movies ex.(Clash of the Titans : IN 3D!!!!!) here. Inception will indeed be awesome though.
