that was scary as hell

[8.8 Magnitude earthquake hits Japan, followed by a 7.8 aftershock 30 minutes later. March 11, 2011 @ 2:46PM]

That was the largest earthquake I’ve ever experienced. I’m still quite shaken up, and am still being literally shaken by aftershocks… 2 HOURS AFTER THE QUAKE.

I was walking back to the office from an abnormally late lunch by myself (1:48PM - 2:48PM) when I started to feel a little strange. I was standing across the street from the office at the crosswalk when things turned bad quickly. I could see the entire office in front of me moving, the taxi parked on the other side of the road was shaking in unison with the street poles and road signs. I heard screams as workers exited a building to my right, and the trees nearby were swaying violently.

I was trying to find an open place to stand, away from anything that looked dangerous. Do you have any idea how hard that is to do when you’re in the midst of a concrete, metal-plated, electrified jungle with sewers, subways, and various pitfalls potentially under every step?

Fear washes over the big and small alike in an event like this. Fear in it’s most primal form. TGIF, I need a double shot of Scotch now.

Thanks, we’re safe and dry here. Last night, 1 of the train lines that just happens to go to our part of the city started running again. So, we got on board and managed to make it all the way here by 3AM.

We got the lucky break this time. Now, we’re headed to the store to get some food.

  9. Charles Says:

@B> The LOTR movies are safe as well.

Charles, you should really contact the news agencies. I have a feeling you would be better at describing everything than most of the people they currently are interviewing.

Wish there was something we could do besides keep you in our prayers. If you can think of anything else let us know.

thanks for the compliment, but i’m not sure i could give a good enough description of the situation up north. We’re quite lucky where we are at. Outside my window, it looks like a normal day. We can still feel the aftershocks, and we see the horrible mess on the TV, and we are worried about Makoto since he’s up there… but other than that, I can’t really give much more insight that what the TV is already giving.
